Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for June 1st, featuring the 1991-92 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>1991-92 Pittsburgh Penguins Win Second Stanley Cup<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1992: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/murphla01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Larry Murphy<\/a><\/strong> scores early in the third period and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/francro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Francis<\/a><\/strong> gets an empty-netter as the Pens sweep the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>. Pittsburgh overcomes a hat trick by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/grahadi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dirk Graham<\/a><\/strong> to take Game 4 of the Final, 6-5. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/roenije01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremy Roenick<\/a><\/strong> also adds a pair of goals for the Blackhawks.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7Of_JnJ746o\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemiema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mario Lemieux<\/a><\/strong> wins the Conn Smythe Trophy for the second straight post-season. Lemieux gets 34 points in 15 playoff games, including two assists in the clinching game.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1949:<\/strong> The NHL increases the schedule from 60 games to 70 for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> win their first Stanley Cup Final game in franchise history. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a><\/strong> notches three assists in the Kings&#8217; 4-1 Game 1 win over the Montreal Canadiens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Islanders<\/a> head coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/arboual01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al Arbour<\/a><\/strong> retires after 1,606 career games coached. He won four Cups with the team, but does return for one game 2007-08.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lidstni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nicklas Lidstrom<\/a><\/strong> scores 1:01 into overtime as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> win their first home playoff overtime game since 1960. His goal helps the Wings beat the Blackhawks, 2-1, in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1996:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida Panthers<\/a> reach the Stanley Cup Final in just their third season.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/v\/vanbijo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Vanbiesbrouck<\/a><\/strong> makes 39 saves as Florida tops Pittsburgh, 3-1, in Game 7 of the Eastern Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2011: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/luongro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roberto Luongo<\/a><\/strong> is the sixth goalie to get a shutout in his Stanley Cup Final debut.
