We\u2019ll remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for May 23rd, featuring Antoine Vermette<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Antoine Vermette Wins Another Multi-OT Game for Blackhawks<\/h3>\n

2015:<\/strong> The Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> forward scores 5:37 into the second overtime as they beat the Anaheim Ducks<\/a> in Game 4 of the Western Final. His goal helped Chicago tie the final at two games apiece with a 5-4 victory.<\/p>\n

It’s the fourth multiple-overtime win for the Blackhawks, which is a league record. Vermette was a healthy scratch in Game 3, but made an impact. Anaheim had a 4-3 lead in the third period, but Patrick Kane<\/a><\/strong> tied the game with 8:21 in regulation.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1977: Gordie Howe<\/a>, Mark Howe<\/a><\/strong> and Marty Howe<\/a><\/strong> each leave the Houston Aeros of the WHA for the New England Whalers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1979:<\/strong> The New England, who just joined from the WHA, officially change their name to the Hartford Whalers.<\/p>\n

1991: Mark Recchi<\/a><\/strong> scores twice and Larry Murphy<\/a><\/strong> has four assists in the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> 6-4 Game 5 win over the Minnesota North Stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1995: Paul Coffey<\/a><\/strong> ties Denis Potvin<\/a><\/strong> for highest-scoring defenceman in the playoffs. Coffey gets a goal and an assist in the Detroit Red Wings<\/a> 6-2 Game 2 win over the San Jose Sharks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

2000: Joe Nieuwendyk<\/a><\/strong> scores 12:10 into overtime as the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche<\/a>. Dallas wins 3-2 to take Game 5 and three games to two lead.<\/p>\n

2010:<\/strong> The Blackhawks reach the Final for the first time since 1992 with a 4-2 win over the Sharks. Dustin Byfuglien<\/a><\/strong> scores his third game-winning goal of the playoffs.<\/p>\n

2016: Joe Pavelski<\/a><\/strong> scores twice in a 6-3 Game 5 victory over the St. Louis Blues<\/a>. Pavelski gives the Sharks a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference Final.<\/p>\n

2018: Andre Burakovsky<\/a><\/strong> scores twice as the Washington Capitals<\/a> advance to the Final for the first time since 1998. Washington wins 4-0 in Game 7 over the Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a>.<\/p>\n
