Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for May 15th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/klimape01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Petr Klima<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/klimape01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Petr Klima<\/a> Ends Longest Stanley Cup Final Game<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1990:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> forward scores 15:13 into the third overtime as they edge the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a>, 3-2. Klima got benched for long stretches during the game but beats Bruins goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/moogan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy Moog<\/a> to end the game.<\/p>\n<p>Edmonton had gotten out to a 2-0 lead before Boston rallied. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bourqra01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ray Bourque<\/a><\/strong> scores early in the period before a 26-minute power outage. He tallies again with 1:29 left in regulation to force plenty of extra hockey. The Oilers go on to win the series in five games.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/C_RxYF-xCy8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1926:<\/strong> The league approves a second New York franchise to join the Americans. Tex Rickard is the owner and they eventually morph into the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Detroit<\/a> are also given teams for the next season if their rinks are ready. The new teams join Boston and Pittsburgh in the American Division. The Americans join <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ottawa<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Toronto<\/a> in the Canadian Division.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1967:<\/strong> Boston and Chicago pull off a blockbuster trade as the Bruins get <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/esposph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phil Esposito<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stanffr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fred Stanfield<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hodgeke01,hodgeke02&amp;search=Ken+Hodge&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ken Hodge<\/a><\/strong>. The Blackhawks acquire<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/martipi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pit Martin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/marotgi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gilles Marotte<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/norrija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Norris<\/a><\/strong>. Boston ends up getting the better of the deal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1979: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/drydeke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ken Dryden<\/a><\/strong> is a last-minute replacement for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=larocmi01,larocmi02&amp;search=Michel+Larocque&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michel Larocque<\/a><\/strong> and he helps the Habs past the Rangers, 6-2, in Game 2 of the Final. Dryden was pulled in Game 1, but Larocque was injured by a shot from <span id=\"token-FBD92992DA9E97962E7A1\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/risebdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Doug Risebrough<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1980: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/holmgpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Holmgren<\/a><\/strong> is the first American-born player to get a hat trick in Cup Final game. He leads the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> to an 8-3 victory over the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> New York Islanders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=richest02,richest01&amp;search=Stephane+Richer&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephane Richer<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s fourth OT-winner in his career leads the New Jersey Devils to a 4-3\u00a0 Game 1 win over the Rangers in the Eastern Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Vancouver Canucks<\/a> set a record with two shorthanded goals in 17 seconds. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/ruuttch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christian Ruuttu<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/courtge01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Geoff Courtnall<\/a><\/strong> get goals in a 6-5 OT win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/roypa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Roy<\/a><\/strong> gets his 22nd career post-season shutout in a 1-0 Game 7 win for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a> over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sharks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Jose Sharks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2018: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hedmavi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Hedman<\/a><\/strong> gets two assists in a 4-2 victory for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/capitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Capitals<\/a>.
