Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for May 5th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richahe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henri Richard<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richahe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henri Richard<\/a> Gets OT Winner for Montreal<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1966:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> forward scores 2:20 into overtime as they win their second straight Stanley Cup. Richard helps the Habs win 3-2 over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> in Game 6. The goal is the only one he scored in the 1966 post-season.<\/p>\n<p>Montreal had lost the first two games of the series but roared back with four straight wins. The Cup win was the second in a run of four titles in five years until 1970. Red Wings goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/croziro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roger Crozier<\/a><\/strong> wins the Conn Smythe Trophy despite his team losing.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1974: <\/strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2020\/05\/04\/brendan-brisson-scouting-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> are the first post-1976 expansion club to beat an Original Six team in a series. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/dornhga01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gary Dornhoefer<\/a><\/strong> scores twice as the Flyers eliminate the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> with a 4-3 win in Game 7 of the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1981: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bossymi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Bossy<\/a><\/strong> scores twice as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Islanders <\/a>sweep the rival Rangers with a 5-2 victory in the semis. Bossy breaks <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/leachre01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reggie Leach<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s record of most goals in the regular season and post-season with 81.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1985: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stastpe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Stastny<\/a><\/strong> gets an OT-winner for the second straight game in the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Quebec Nordiques<\/a> 2-1 win in Game 1 of the Wales Conference Final. Stastny&#8217;s marker takes down the Flyers, but Philadelphia would win the series.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sakicjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Sakic<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s power-play goal is his 100th career post-season point. Colorado beats Detroit, 4-2, to advance to the Western Conference Final with a Game 5 win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2010: <\/strong>A<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/byfugdu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dustin Byfuglien<\/a><\/strong> hat-trick lifts the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> to a 5-2 Game 3 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a>. It&#8217;s the first road playoff hat-trick by a Hawks player since <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hullbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bobby Hull<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2013: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pageaje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean-Gabriel Pageau<\/a><\/strong> scores three times as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ottawa Senators<\/a> beat Montreal 6-1 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarter-finals.
