Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for May 3rd, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gelinma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Gelinas<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gelinma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Gelinas<\/a> Ends Third Career Series in OT<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2004:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a> forward scores 19:13 into overtime to eliminate the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>. Gelinas is the first player to wrap up three post-season series in overtime. Calgary beats Detroit, 1-0, to book a place in the Western Conference Final. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kiprumi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miikka Kiprusoff<\/a><\/strong> makes 35 saves to keep the Wings off the scoreboard.<\/p>\n<p>Gelinas knocked off the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> in the previous round for his second OT-series clincher. He also netted the series decider while with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> in Game 6 of the 2002 Eastern Conference Final. His goal helped the Hurricanes beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1968:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> St. Louis Blues<\/a> are the first expansion to reach the Stanley Cup Final. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schocro01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron Schock<\/a><\/strong> scores in the second overtime to get a 2-1 win Game 7 over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota North Stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1970: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bucykjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Bucyk<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s hat trick lifts the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a> to a 6-1 win over St. Louis. Boston would win Game 1 and go on to sweep the Stanley Cup Final in four games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1973: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richahe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henri Richard<\/a><\/strong> plays in 165th playoff game for the Montreal Canadiens. Richard beat<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kellyre01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Red Kelly<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s record for most post-season games played.
