Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for May 1st, featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/belivje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean Beliveau<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/belivje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean Beliveau<\/a> Wins First Conn Smythe Trophy<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1965:<\/strong> The<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Montreal Canadiens<\/a> great wins the inaugural award for post-season MVP. He records 16 points in the Stanley Cup playoffs as the Habs win 4-0 in Game 7 over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>. Beliveau scores the fastest game-winning goal to win a Cup Final in 14 seconds. He assists on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/duffdi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dick Duff<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s goal that helps seal the crown.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cournyv01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yvan Cournoyer<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richahe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henri Richard<\/a><\/strong> add goals while <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/worslgu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gump Worsley<\/a><\/strong> makes 20 saves to get the shutout. Worsley is the second goalie to get a shutout in a Game 7. It&#8217;s the first Stanley Cup for Montreal since 1960.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1980: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nystrbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob Nystrom<\/a><\/strong> scores 1:20 in double overtime as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Islanders<\/a> win a record seventh straight road post-season game. It&#8217;s the third of four OT-goals in the playoffs for Nystrom as the Isles beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sabres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Sabres,<\/a> 2-1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1992:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> win their first Game 7 in franchise history with an 8-4 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/devils\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey Devils<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gravead01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Graves<\/a><\/strong> scores two goals and two assists in the clincher of the Patrick Division semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lafonpa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pat LaFontaine<\/a><\/strong> is the player in league history to score a goal in his team&#8217;s first seven playoff games.
