The deal will carry the 25-year-old through 2020-21. He led his team with 17 goals and 43 points. He was amongst the league leaders in most major offensive categories. Brome also contributed to Sweden&#8217;s recent international efforts, recording one goal and five points in eight games earlier this year in European play.<\/p>\n<p>Brome has been a productive option in a league that is only a step or two below the NHL. He has NHL size at 6&#8217;0&#8243;, 183 pounds but his body will need time to adjust to North America. His goal-scoring ability looks good based on his recent seasons but there&#8217;s no way of knowing if that will translate. Detroit has very few solid options for next year so Brome will have an outside shot at the NHL roster right away despite a lack of experience outside his home country.<\/p>\n<h3>What This Means for the Future<\/h3>\n<p>This is an ideal situation for Brome. He could easily make the Red Wings with a strong training camp despite his lack of experience. Detroit has one of the thinnest rosters in the NHL projected for 2020-21. They are far from contention so there is no risk giving a European import time on a middle-six line.<\/p>\n<p>Detroit likely views Brome as a lottery ticket. He will either work out and earn another contract beyond next season or he will return to Sweden after one season in North America. The team still has several free agents that need contracts including <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/manthan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Mantha<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boweyma01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Madison Bowey<\/a><\/strong> but they decided to go after someone who might be undervalued.
