Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for April 24th, featuring Joe Sakic<\/a>.<\/strong>

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Joe Sakic<\/a> Breaks Post-Season OT Goal Record<\/h3>\n

2006:<\/strong> The Colorado Avalanche<\/a> captain breaks Maurice Richard<\/a><\/strong>‘s record of six playoff-overtime goals. 4:36 into overtime, Sakic scores his seventh OT-goal in the playoffs as the Avs beat the Dallas Stars<\/a>. Colorado takes the game 5-4 to win Game 2 of the Western Conference quarterfinals<\/p>\n

Sakic would end up with eight goals in the extra session, which is still the league record. Colorado would upset second-seeded Dallas before being swept by the Anaheim Ducks<\/a> in the next round.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1969:<\/strong> Montreal Canadiens<\/a> great Jean Beliveau<\/a><\/strong> scores his only playoff overtime goal in Game 6 of the semifinals. Beliveau scores in the second overtime as the Habs beat the rival Boston Bruins,<\/a> 2-1.<\/p>\n

1983: Brad Park<\/a><\/strong> is the first player to tie a Game 7 in regulation and then win it overtime. Park helps the Bruins beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2, in the Adams Division Final.<\/p>\n

Jari Kurri<\/a><\/strong> scores two shorthanded goals in the same period as the Edmonton Oilers<\/a> win Game 1 of the Campbell Conference final. Kurri helps Edmonton beat the Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>, 8-4.<\/p>\n

1993: Brad May<\/a><\/strong> scores the iconic “May Day” goal as the Sabres stun the Bruins, 6-5, in overtime to win the Adams Division semifinal series. Buffalo stunned division champion Boston in four straight.<\/p>\n

Ray Ferraro<\/a><\/strong> scores for the second straight game in overtime as the New York Islanders<\/a> beat the Washington Capitals<\/a>, 4-3. Ferraro caps a rally to give the Isles a 3-1 series lead in the Patrick Division semifinals.<\/p>\n

1996: Petr Nedved<\/a><\/strong> caps a wild four-overtime game as the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> win 3-2 over the Capitals. Nedved helps the Penguins beat the Capitals in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Ken Wregget<\/a><\/strong> stops Joe Juneau<\/a><\/strong> in the first penalty shot awarded in a post-season overtime.<\/p>\n

1997: Patrick Roy<\/a><\/strong> tops Billy Smith<\/a><\/strong>‘s post-season win record of 89 in Colorado’s 7-0 win over Chicago. Roy would get his 100th playoff victory two seasons later.<\/p>\n

2016: John Tavares<\/a><\/strong> helps the Islanders win their first series since 1993. Tavares helps the Islanders beat the Florida Panthers,<\/a> 2-1, in Game 6 of the first round.<\/p>\n
