We\u2019ll <\/span>remember the moments that shaped the sport of hockey that happened on this day. Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for April 19th, featuring<\/span> Martin Brodeur<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n

Martin Brodeur Ties Post-Season Shutout Record<\/h3>\n

2012:<\/strong> The New Jersey Devils<\/a> goalie ties Patrick Roy<\/a><\/strong>‘s playoff shutout record of 24 with 26 saves. Brodeur guides the Devils to a 4-0 win over the Florida Panthers<\/a> in Game 4 of the Eastern quarterfinals. The Montreal native even gets on the scoresheet with an assist on Steve Bernier<\/a>‘<\/strong>s goal.<\/p>\n

It would be the last time Brodeur would record a shutout in his illustrious career. He would help the Devils reach the Stanley Cup Final. New Jersey would fall to the Los Angeles Kings<\/a> in the championship series.<\/p>\n

Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n

1947: Ted Kennedy<\/a><\/strong> scores as the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> secure their third straight Stanley Cup. The Leafs would edge the Montreal Canadiens<\/a>, 2-1, in Game 6 of the Final.<\/p>\n

1962: Stan Mikita<\/a><\/strong> and Tim Horton<\/a><\/strong> both set playoff records in the Leafs’ 8-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> in Game 5 of the Final. Mikita breaks Gordie Howe<\/a>‘s record for most points in a post-season with 21. Horton nets three assists to get 15 points, which is the most for a defenceman.<\/p>\n

1970: Phil Esposito<\/a><\/strong> gets the better of young brother Tony Esposito<\/a><\/strong> in Game 1 of the semifinals. The elder Esposito scores a hat trick in a 6-3 for the Boston Bruins<\/a> against Chicago.<\/p>\n

1989: Pat Burns<\/strong> wins his sixth straight playoff career to start his coaching career. The Canadiens would beat the Bruins, 3-2, in Game 2 of the Adams Division semifinal.<\/p>\n

2004: Jose Theodore<\/a><\/strong> picks the right time to get his first post-season shutout as the Habs beat the Bruins, 2-0, in Game 7 of the Eastern quarterfinal. Theodore stops 32 shots to become the fourth goalie to get his first shutout in a Game 7.<\/p>\n

2014: Barret Jackman<\/a><\/strong> scores 5:50 into overtime as the St. Louis Blues<\/a> rally to beat Chicago 4-3.<\/p>\n

2015: John Tavares<\/a><\/strong> scores 15 seconds into overtime as the New York Islanders<\/a> beat the Washington Capitals<\/a>, 2-1, in Game 1 of the Eastern first round. It’s the first OT-winner in the playoffs for the Isles since 1993.<\/p>\n

2016: Matt Murray<\/a><\/strong> makes 16 saves as the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> beat the New York Rangers,<\/a> 3-1, in Game 4 of the first round. Murray and Jeff Zatkoff<\/a> <\/strong>are the first goalies to win their playoff debuts in the same series.<\/p>\n
