Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for April 17th, featuring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crosbsi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sidney Crosby<\/a><\/strong>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crosbsi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sidney Crosby<\/a> Young to 100 Points in a Season<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2006:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> forward is the youngest player to collect 100 points in season. Crosby is 18 years and 253 days old and gets the mark on his second of three assists. The Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native joins <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hawerda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dale Hawerchuk<\/a><\/strong> as the only 18 year olds to get 100 points.<\/p>\n<p>Crosby would tally 102 points at the end of the season on 39 goals and 63 assists. The three helpers would lead the Penguins to a 6-1 rout of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Islanders<\/a>. Play is stopped for nearly five minutes as fans shower the ice with hats and T-shirts.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1958: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/richama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maurice Richard<\/a><\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> scores his sixth overtime winner in a 3-2 victory over the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a>. The goal helps Montreal take Game 5 after Richard beats <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/simmodo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Don Simmons<\/a><\/strong> at 5:45.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1977: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kozakdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Don Kozak<\/a><\/strong> of the Los Angeles Kings scores the fastest goal to start a post-season game. Kozak beat Bruins goalie <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cheevge01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gerry Cheevers<\/a><\/strong> six seconds into Game 4 of the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/leachre01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reggie Leach<\/a><\/strong> helps the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> cap a three-goal rally with an OT winner against the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>. Leach scored 19:10 of overtime as the Flyers win Game 3. Philadelphia is the second team to win back-to-back games in one playoff series despite trailing in the last two minutes of the third period in each game.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1981: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/potvide01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denis Potvin<\/a><\/strong> of the Islanders is the third NHL defenceman to score three goals in a game. The Isles would beat the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Edmonton Oilers,<\/a> 6-3, in Game 2 of the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1983: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a><\/strong> sets a record for most points in a playoff game with seven in Edmonton&#8217;s 10-2 rout of the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Calgary Flames<\/a>. The Great One gets four goals and three assists to win Game of the Smythe Division Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1996:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida Panthers<\/a> win their first game in post-season history with a 6-3 victory over Boston in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1997: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brodema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Brodeur<\/a><\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/devils\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> is the second goalie to score in a post-season game. Brodeur caps a 5-2 win over the Canadiens in Game 1 of the Eastern quarterfinal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2018:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/knights\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vegas Golden Knights<\/a> are the first team to sweep a playoff series in their debut season.
