Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for April 14th, featuring<\/span> the 1995-96 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>1995-96 Detroit Red Wings Get 62nd Victory<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1996: <\/strong><span id=\"token-461D911BE81EC47C782B1\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kozlovy01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vyacheslav Kozlov<\/a><\/strong> scores twice and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/osgooch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Osgood<\/a><\/strong> makes 21 saves as the Wings down the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Stars<\/a>, 5-1. The victory gives Detroit its 62nd win on the season, which is the new standard in an 82-game season. They eclipsed the mark of 60 wins in 80 games by the 1976-77 <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Post-season success would not follow the team as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Avalanche<\/a> would upend the Red Wings in six games in the Western Conference Final. Colorado would win the Stanley Cup, but Detroit would break the drought next season. The title in 1997 would be the first since 1955.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1928:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> win their first Stanley Cup with a 2-1 win over the Montreal Maroons in Game 5. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bouchfr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frank Boucher<\/a><\/strong> scores both goals as the Rangers are the second American team to win the trophy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1942:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> tie a record for most goals in a Final game with nine. Toronto would down Detroit, 9-3, in Game 5. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/metzdo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Don Metz<\/a><\/strong> would get three goals and two assists for the Leafs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1955:<\/strong> Detroit repeats as Stanley Cup champs after besting Montreal in Game 7.<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/delveal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Delvecchio<\/a><\/strong> scores twice for the Red Wings in the 3-1 win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1960:<\/strong> Montreal lifts its fifth straight Stanley Cup in a 4-0 shutout over Toronto in Game 4. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/belivje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean Beliveau<\/a><\/strong> scores twice and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/plantja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacques Plante<\/a><\/strong> makes 30 saves in the victory.
