Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for April 9th, featuring <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/jagrja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaromir Jagr<\/a>.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Jaromir Jagr Gets 1,800th Career Point<\/h3>\n<p><strong>2015:<\/strong> The ageless Czech forward gets a pair of assists in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida Panthers<\/a> 4-2 win over the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Boston Bruins<\/a>. Jagr becomes the fourth player to reach 1,800 career points with the points. He joins<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gretzwa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/messima01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Messier<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/howego01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gordie Howe<\/a><\/strong> as the only players to get the mark.<\/p>\n<p>Jagr would play into the 2017-18 with the Calgary Flames before heading back to the Czech league with Kladno. He finished with 1,921 NHL points, but the 48-year-old is still playing hockey.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1931: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/wentwcy01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cy Wentworth<\/a><\/strong> scores 53:50 into overtime of Game 1 as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> edge the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a>, 3-2. It&#8217;s the longest game in Stanley Cup Final history until 1990.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1942: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bushed01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eddie Bush<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s five points are the most by a defenceman in a Cup Final game. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>, 5-2, in Game 3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1963: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/duffdi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dick Duff<\/a><\/strong> of the Leafs scores the fastest two goals to start a game in a 4-2 win over the Wings. Duff beats <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sawchte01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terry Sawchuk<\/a><\/strong> twice as the Toronto wins Game 2 of the Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1968: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/connewa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayne Connelly<\/a><\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota North Stars<\/a> is the first to score on a penalty shot in a playoff game. Connelly beats Sawchuk as the North Stars beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings,<\/a> 7-5.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1972: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/martipi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pit Martin<\/a><\/strong> scores the fastest OT goal as the Blackhawks would sweep the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins,<\/a> 6-5. Martin would score 12 seconds into the extra session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1980: <\/strong>Howe scores his final NHL goal as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hartford Whalers<\/a> lose 8-4 to the Canadiens. It was the 68th post-season goal of his career.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1987:<\/strong> Gretzky ties a playoff record for most assists in a post-season game with six. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/oilers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> would thump the Kings, 13-3, in Game 2 of the Smythe semis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> Pittsburgh would break the consecutive wins record with 16 in a 10-4 rout of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2006: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/thornjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Thornton<\/a><\/strong> sets the NHL record for most points by a player traded during the season.
