Here\u2019s our look at this date in hockey history for April 7th, featuring <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/patrile01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lester Patrick<\/a><\/strong>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Today in Hockey History<\/h2>\n<h3>Lester Patrick Steps Between Pipes for Rangers<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1928:<\/strong> The <a href=\"http:\/\/ranger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> coach plays after <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/chabolo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lorne Chabot<\/a><\/strong> can&#8217;t continue due to an eye injury in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. Chabot takes a shot from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stewane01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nels Stewart<\/a><\/strong> of the Montreal Maroons. Patrick can&#8217;t use a backup goalie sitting in the stands or minor leaguer <strong>Hugh McCormick<\/strong> after asking.<\/p>\n<p>The Maroons were trying to take a 2-0 series lead when Patrick is talked into donning the pads. He lets in a game-tying goal, but the Rangers win the game, 2-1, in overtime. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bouchfr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frank Boucher<\/a><\/strong> gets the game-winner for the Rangers. The 44-year-old coach had played in the PCHA years ago.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/millejo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Miller<\/a><\/strong> of the New York Americans is allowed to play for the Rangers, who win their first title in five games.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Notable Events<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1927:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ottawa Senators<\/a> play to a scoreless tie in Game 1 of the first all-NHL Cup Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1936: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sorrejo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Sorrell<\/a><\/strong> gets two goals and two assists as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a> beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs,<\/a> 9-4,. The nine goals are still the most scored by one team as Detroit won Game 2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1955: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/geoffbe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bernie Geoffrion<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s hat trick helps the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> snap the Red Wings&#8217; 15-game winning streak. Detroit had won nine regular season and six playoff games before losing 4-2 to Montreal in Game 3 of the Final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1974: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/parenbe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bernie Parent<\/a><\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> wins a then-record 47th game in a 6-2 victory over the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Minnesota North Stars<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brodema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Brodeur<\/a><\/strong> breaks the record in 2006-07.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy Brown<\/a><\/strong> is the last goalie to play without a mask. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> lose 6-3 to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlanta Flames<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1982:<\/strong> The <a href=\"http:\/\/oilers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> combine for 18 goals in a 10-8 Kings win. It&#8217;s the most goals in a post-season game as L.A. takes Game 1 of the Smythe Division semis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993:<\/strong> Pittsburgh ties the mark for most regular season wins in a row with 15.
