However, that\u2019s been <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a hard task with the team languishing as the worst in the league.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Detroit has taken their lumps this season and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">there\u2019s been a lot of bad statistics. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Wings are dead last in goals allowed with 265, which is 30 more than the next worst team (<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ottawa Senators<\/a>). <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">They\u2019re also last in goals scored with 142, which is 32 less than the 30<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">-place <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a>.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Those statistics obviously mean that Detroit has the worst goal differential in the league.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Other glaring stats <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are the team is the worst at the penalty kill with 74.3 percent and 28<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in power play success rate at 14.9 p<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ercent. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Detroit is at the bottom of the league in save percentage at .886 and Ottawa is the next worst at .900.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">However, it\u2019s not been all bad <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for the club in 2019-20. Bernier has settle<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">d in after scuffling in his first year in Hockeytown.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Finding a long-term solution in net should be on general manager <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/y\/yzermst01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Yzerman<\/a>\u2019s to do list, but Bernier can at least be a stop gap if Yzerman doesn\u2019t land a big name via trade or free agency.<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/howarja02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Howard<\/a><\/strong> will probably<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> not be back due to his age and troubles in net this season. However, one wonders if he\u2019s getting <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/1601616\/2020\/02\/13\/could-filip-hroneks-huge-workload-be-a-double-edged-sword\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">too much too soon<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. However, there is some promise in a pair of young defenders. Sixth-overall pick <strong>Mortiz Seider<\/strong> has shown flashes of what made Yzerma<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n take a risk on him in the draft.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Seider was playing other younger players, but he was showing a complete game with physical hits and solid passes. The young German looks to be a cornerstone <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of the team\u2019s blue-line group for years to come.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Rookie <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindsgu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gustav Lindstrom<\/a><\/strong> has also shown his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/sports\/nhl\/red-wings\/2020\/03\/08\/simple-good-red-wings-rookie-gustav-lindstrom-adjusting-well-nhl-game\/4994416002\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">simple yet effective game<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> with the team. He has one assist in 16 games played, but is also using his physical play. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He\u2019s looked like an experienced veteran despite him being in the league for just over a dozen games. Detroit is assured a top-four selection if the standard draft procedure is used.
