It was a cheap contract that provided the Devils depth on the blue line. He has scored four goals and 12 points in 53 games this season.

Drafted 132nd overall by the Red Wings in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Quincey did not make his first big splash in the NHL until the 2008-09 season as a member of the Los Angeles Kings. In 72 games that season he tallied 38 points, but his point production was limited after that, having never reached the 30 point total again.

The Devils look unlikely to make a serious push for the playoffs this year and have apparently decided not to use any more of their time, or their cap space, on an aging defensmen. It’s hard to argue with the Devils moving Quincey, especially for the fact that he doesn’t play any major role in the success they have had.

The 31-year-old has played in 548 games over his career with 152 points. He will look to finish off the 2016-17 season as a member of the Blue Jackets strong in efforts to sign a long term deal in the off-season.

Prout, 26, has played just 15 games for the Blue Jackets this season, with three assists. In 224 career games, he has six goals and 33 points.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The New Jersey Devils have parted ways with Kyle Quincey sending the veteran defensman to the Columbus Blue Jackets and in return receive Dalton Prout. #CBJ have traded D Dalton Prout to #NJDevils for D Kyle Quincey.
