He has limited time in the NHL playing in just 110 games over three seasons. He has only participated in two games this season, and is scoreless. Djoos was a a seventh-round, 195th overall selection of the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 25 playoffs games collecting just one assist. Djoos does have his name on the Stanley Cup.

He has played in the AHL, and has had some injuries keeping him from being on the ice for the Caps.

Daniel Sprong, 22 is 6′-0″ and was the 46th overall pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2015 draft. He has seen limited time with the Ducks after being traded to Anaheim in December 2018. This season he has only appeared in eight games with one goal, one assist. He has done fairly well in the AHL registering 11 goals and 16 assists in 39 games with the San Diego Gulls. He seemed to have some potential, so it’s unclear why he was dealt unless the Ducks needed a defenceman.

Sprong has 97 NHL games under his belt with 19 goals, 11 assists to show for it. His possession numbers are decent with a 49.9 percent Corsi and a 0.1 Relative Corsi.

What This Means for the Future

This trade could have been to address the needs of each team at this time. Both players may be sent to the AHL to gain more experience and ice time. Sprong could be a really attractive offensive player, so the Capitals may have made a wise choice to trade for him.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The Washington Capitals made a trade today with the Anaheim Ducks, moving defenceman Christian Djoos for forward Daniel Sprong.
