Teams are making their final pushes to get deals done and the rumours will keep flying. The deadline will strike at 3 p.m. ET on Monday. Today&#8217;s NHL rumours focus on the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/senators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ottawa Senators.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>NHL Rumours<\/h2>\n<h3>Toronto Maple Leafs<\/h3>\n<p><em>Rumour: <\/em>Sportsnet&#8217;s Chris Johnston said during Saturday&#8217;s Hockey Night in Canada Headlines segment that a few teams have been asking about Leafs defenceman <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/barrity01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyson Barrie<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s availability. Some of those teams include the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/knights\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vegas Golden Knights<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">With the NHL trade deadline less than 48 hours away, a contingent of Western Conference teams are waiting to see the availability of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MapleLeafs?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@MapleLeafs<\/a> defenceman Tyson Barrie. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SNTrade?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#SNTrade<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gvOMDHeahk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/gvOMDHeahk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Sportsnet (@Sportsnet) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sportsnet\/status\/1231438094697684992?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">February 23, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>Analysis:<\/em> It looks like the Leafs are going to focus their energy on giving <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/muzzija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Muzzin<\/a><\/strong> a contract extension. Both talented defenders are unrestricted free agents at the end of the season. Muzzin makes $4 million a season while Barrie commands $5.5 million. The Colorado Avalanche retain $2.75 million of that deal.<\/p>\n<p>This season has been a struggle for Barrie, as he has five goals and 33 points in 62 games. Toronto is perpetually up against the salary cap and trading Barrie would relieve some pressure.<\/p>\n<p>However, Kyle Dubas isn&#8217;t going to leave his defence without one of its more veteran players. It&#8217;s a reasonable request for Toronto to want an NHL-ready blue-liner in return. All of those Pacific Division teams would love a solid defender like Barrie.<\/p>\n<h3>Carolina Hurricanes<\/h3>\n<p><em>Rumour: <\/em>Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic speculated that the team may be in the market for a goalie with the run of injuries they had.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Carolina thought they were out on Lehner because asking price was too high. Now who knows. Depending on their goalie injury updates, may make calls around the league before the deadline. Emergency goalie <strong>David Ayers<\/strong> filled in to get the victory.<\/p>\n<p>LeBrun said one name the Canes should consider is Anaheim Ducks backup, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/millery01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Miller<\/a><\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/forsban01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anton Forsberg<\/a> <\/strong>and<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nedelal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Nedeljkovic<\/a> <\/strong>are the two goalies playing in AHL Charlotte and likely to be called up.<\/p>\n<p>Miller would make an inexpensive rental for a team as he only makes $1.125 million. He&#8217;s also an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The East Lansing, Mich native has played well backing up <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=gibsojo02,gibsojo01&amp;search=John+Gibson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Gibson<\/a> <\/strong>in the Ducks&#8217; crease.<\/p>\n<p>Could someone like a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lehnero01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robin Lehner<\/a> <\/strong>or <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crawfco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Corey Crawford<\/a><\/strong> be available on the trade market? The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a> do have to make a decision on which goalie they think will be next year&#8217;s No. 1 starter. Both players are UFAs at the end of this season.<\/p>\n<p>Carolina has other veteran goalies that they can keep their eye on. A move should happen if either netminder is out for an extended period of time.<\/p>\n<h3>Ottawa Senators<\/h3>\n<p><em>Rumour: <\/em>TSN&#8217;s Bob McKenzie said on TSN 1200 in Ottawa that it&#8217;s more like the Senators deal centre <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pageaje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jean-Gabriel Pageau<\/a><\/strong> at the deadline. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The Ottawa native is having a breakout year with 24 goals and 40 points in 59 games.<\/p>\n<p>It sounds like another star player won&#8217;t be extending their stay in the Canadian capital. Ottawa just can&#8217;t seem to keep its star players. However, it&#8217;s a smart play to trade someone that won&#8217;t re-sign a new deal. At least the Senators are going to get some sort of asset for a player like Pageau.<\/p>\n<p>Ottawa has tried to nail down <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stonema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Stone<\/a><\/strong> to a new deal last deadline, but they made the trade with Vegas when it realized an extension wasn&#8217;t happening.
