The Los Angeles Kings<\/strong><\/a> have re-signed forward Martin Frk<\/strong><\/a> to a two-year-deal with an average annual value of $725,000.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles Kings lock up Martin Frk<\/h2>\n

Frk has split his time this season between the Kings and their AHL team, the Ontario Reign. In Ontario, the 26-year-old has played 37 games and scored 23 goals, added 13 assists for 36 points along with 59 penalty minutes. With the Kings, Frk has played eight games and has scored five goals, added one assist for six points.<\/p>\n

Before playing with Los Angeles. Frk played 100 NHL games between the Detroit Red Wings<\/strong> <\/a>and the Carolina Hurricanes.<\/strong><\/a> He scored 12 goals and 31 points in that time.<\/p>\n

In the AHL, Frk has scored 91 goals, added 77 assists for 168 points in 264 games. He won the Calder Cup with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2017 and scored 15 points in 16 postseason games.<\/p>\n

Frk has also won a Memorial Cup with the Halifax Mooseheads in 2013. He played on a line with future NHL players, Nathan MacKinnon<\/strong><\/a> and Jonathan Drouin.<\/strong><\/a> He scored 84 points in 56 regular season games that year and scored 33 points in 17 postseason games.<\/p>\n

Frk was drafted 49th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/h3>\n

Frk went viral this season at the 2020 AHL all-star game in Ontario, California. In the hardest shot competition, he shot the puck 109.2 miles-per-hour, breaking Zdeno Chara<\/strong>‘s record for the hardest shot. Chara shot the puck 108.8 miles-per-hour at the NHL skills competition in 2012.<\/p>\n

Frk hasn’t always been able to use that shot to his advantage at the NHL level but he has flirted with it. Here is a goal Frk scored earlier in the season to show how dangerous his shot can be.<\/p>\n

He played 68 games for Detroit in the 2016-2017 season and scored 11 goals, added 14 assists for 25 points. He looked to be on his way to becoming a regular NHL player. However, the following season he only scored 1 goal and added five assists in 30 games with the Red Wings. He signed with the Kings in the offseason.<\/p>\n

Martin Frk seems to be back playing to the level he was at during the 2016-2017 season. He is a point per game in the AHL and has five goals in eight NHL games this year. The Kings are third-worst in the NHL in goals for, so adding an inexpensive player like Frk could bring some scoring to their line-up. His hard shot is no joke and he has proven he can consistently score in every level except for the NHL. If he doesn’t work out, then the Kings can put him back in the AHL where he has had proven success.<\/p>\n
