The Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> announced that forward\u00a0Andreas Johnsson<\/a><\/strong> had knee surgery earlier today. The surgery was a success and Johnsson is set to miss the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

Andreas Johnsson Out for Six Months<\/h2>\n

In the first period of Thursday’s night game against the Dallas Stars<\/a>, Andreas Johnsson collided with teammate Kasperi Kapanen<\/a> <\/strong>in the offensive zone.<\/p>\n

While in the offensive zone Maple Leafs forward\u00a0Jason Spezza<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>won a puck battle along the boards. Soon after, Spezza threw the puck towards Kapanen in the slot, who opened up for a one-timer. Kapanen ripped the puck at the net but was blocked along the way. While this is happening, Johnsson made a routine play trying to crash the net. Immediately after his shot Kapanen and Johnsson ran into each other.<\/p>\n

Johnsson stumbled awkwardly, almost losing his balance in the process. He was able to catch his edge and make it back to the bench.<\/p>\n

So far this season, Johnsson has scored eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points to go along with 14 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 53.9 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 0.9.<\/p>\n

Over his three-year NHL career, Johnsson has played for just the Toronto Maple Leafs. He has 30 goals and 37 assists for 67 career points in 125 career games. He was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the seventh round, 202nd overall in the 2013 NHL draft.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/h3>\n

The Maple Leafs did announce on February 14th that Johnsson would require knee surgery and thankfully it went well. With 21 games left, the Maple Leafs find themselves in the third Atlantic Division spot with 70 total points. Currently, the Leafs are ahead of the Florida Panthers<\/a> with one more game played.<\/p>\n

Kyle Dubas<\/strong> seems to have already accounted for Johnsson’s missed time. The Maple Leafs also announced they have traded<\/a> for Florida Panther forward Denis Malgin<\/a><\/strong> in exchange for\u00a0Mason Marchment<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
