Toronto Maple Leafs Acquire Denis Malgin<\/h2>\n

The Maple Leafs have been active as the Feb. 24th trade deadline approaches. Their latest deal was a player-for-player trade with the Panthers.<\/p>\n

The Maple Leafs completed a trade on Wednesday acquiring forward Denis Malgin in exchange for forward Mason Marchment.<\/p>\n

Key Players<\/h3>\n

In Malgin, the Maple Leafs get a bottom-six forward in his fourth season. This season, he has scored four goals and eight assists for 12 points, adding 12 minutes in penalties in 36 games. His possession numbers are 52.7 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 2.3. Those totals are similar compared to last season, where he scored seven goals, nine assists for 16 points in 50 games. Over his four-year NHL career, Malgin has only played for the Panthers. In that time, he has 28 goals and 32 assists for 60 career points in 184 career games. He was drafted in the fourth round, 102nd overall of the 2015 NHL draft by the Panthers.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/h3>\n

Malgin, 23, has split time between the AHL and NHL during his first four seasons. He set a career-high in points with 22 during the 2017-18 season. The move to acquire Malgin comes after Toronto announced that forward Andreas Johnsson<\/a><\/strong> will be out at least eight weeks with an injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Malgin will likely find himself in a bottom-six role with Toronto moving forward. The acquisition bolsters the Maple Leafs forward depth as they make a push for the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Marchment has appeared in four career NHL games, all this season with Toronto. He has one assist in his four appearances. He will report to the Panther’s AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.<\/p>\n
