He was tripped by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cernaer01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Erik Cernak<\/a><\/strong> and went heavily into the boards behind the Lightning net, immediately going to the Avalanche dressing room once he could leave the ice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So far this season, Rantanen has scored 19 goals and 40 points in just 41 games. This will be his second lengthy injury-related absence this season. He previously missed 16 games with a leg injury early in the year.<\/p>\n<p>In his first two seasons, Rantanen showed promise. In his last three, he has produced at over a point-per-game clip. He has scored 249 points in just 280 career NHL games, all with Colorado. The Avalanche originally drafted him 10th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>Update: Adrian Dater, of Colorado Hockey Now, reports that it is a broken collarbone, though the team has not yet confirmed that.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I\u2019m hearing broken collarbone on Rantanen. 6-8 weeks normal timetable<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Adrian Dater (@adater) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/adater\/status\/1229632243359813632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">February 18, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>What This Means for the Future<\/h2>\n<p>Rantanen is a vital part of Colorado&#8217;s attack, forming one of the best lines in hockey with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/landega01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Gabriel\u00a0Landeskog<\/strong><\/a> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mackina01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nathan MacKinnon<\/a><\/strong>. It has been difficult keeping all three healthy at the same time, Landeskog also missing 16 games so far.<\/p>\n<p>MacKinnon has succeeded without them. He has scored 80 points in his 57 games so far, but there is only so many times he can be relied on alone.<\/p>\n<p>With a week to go before the trade deadline, the Avalanche have hit injury trouble. Goalie <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/grubaph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philipp Grubauer<\/a><\/strong> and winger <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/calvema01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Calvert<\/a><\/strong> both left their game against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> two days prior.
