Nielsen left after playing less than two minutes in the first period and Green left in the second period. Both players didn’t return.

So far this season, Green has scored two goals and six assists for eight points to go along with 28 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 46.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -1.2.

Green has spent the last five years with the Red Wings after spending his first eight seasons with the Washington Capitals. He has 149 goals and 349 assists for 498 career points in 871 career games. He was originally drafted by the Capitals 29th overall in the 2004 NHL Draft.

Nielsen has scored three goals and four assists for seven points to go along with six minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 45.1 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -1.6.

Nielsen spent his first nine seasons with the New York Islanders before joining the Red Wings in 2016. He has 165 goals and 300 assists for 465 career points in 881 career games. He was originally drafted by the Islanders in the third round, 87th overall in the 2002 NHL Draft.

What This Means for the Future

With the Red Wings playing their last game tomorrow until after the All-Star break these injuries come at a good time for the team. With both Green and Nielsen out of the lineup, you can expect Jonathan Ericsson and Christoffer Ehn to both slot into the lineup. Detroit will likely call up a defenceman in the coming days with Green expected to miss at least a few weeks. Nielsen will look to return on January 31st when the team plays the New York Rangers.

In Other Red Wings News

Jeff Blashill says Anthony Mantha (mid body) Out at least another month, possibly rest of season.

— Helene St. James (@HeleneStJames) January 21, 2020

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The Detroit Red Wings announced that defenceman Mike Green and forward Frans Nielsen will miss tomorrow’s game vs Minnesota Wild with upper-body injuries.
