The San Jose Sharks<\/a> have parted ways with head coach Peter DeBoer<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peter DeBoer is out as SJ coach. Again, a hockey decision \u2014 nothing else.<\/p>\n

San Jose Sharks Fire Coach Peter DeBoer<\/span><\/h2>\n

The San Jose Sharks have parted ways with head coach Peter DeBoer. This season, the Sharks have a record of 15-16-2 and sit in the sixth spot in the Pacific Division. Over his 12-year NHL career, DeBoer has split his time between the Florida Panthers<\/a>, New Jersey Devils<\/a>, and San Jose Sharks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Overall, he has a 415-329-111 record. His greatest success has been with San Jose since he began coaching there. In those seasons, DeBoer has his career-best .596 win percent. Yet, this season has not been going as smoothly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through their first 20 games, the Sharks went an unsettling 9-10-1. Since then, they have been struggling to make up ground. Losing the last five, something had to be done quickly.<\/span><\/p>\n

What This Means for the Team\u2019s Future<\/span><\/h3>\n

During his five-year stint in San Jose, DeBoer had a record of 198-129-34. He took the Sharks to the playoffs four years in a row. They even won a Western Conference Championship in the 2015-16 season.<\/p>\n

The Sharks have not been themselves as of late, five points out of a wild-card spot. The Sharks are better known for dominating the Pacific Division. Within their last 10 games, they have posted a below-average 4-5-1.<\/p>\n

This is not the only change the Sharks made to their coaching staff, it seems the Sharks have also fired the goalie and assistant coaches. Leaving, what looks to be, Bob Boughner<\/a><\/strong> holding the reins for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n

Sharks have also fired assistant coaches Dave Barr<\/a>, Steve Spott and Johan Hedberg<\/a> (also goaltending coach), in addition to HC DeBoer.<\/p>\n

Bob Boughner stays, expected to take over as coach.<\/p>\n

Boughner has only two years of prior head coaching experience. As bench boss of Florida Panthers<\/a>, Boughner went 80-62-22, falling short of the playoffs both seasons.<\/p>\n
