Pittsburgh Penguins forward Conor Sheary<\/a><\/strong> was having a breakout season<\/a>, but that season has now been put on hold. Sheary left Tuesday night’s game against the Nashville Predators with an upper body injury. On Wednesday, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>announced that the winger would be out for the next four to six weeks.<\/p>\n

“[Sheary’s] having a real good year, so that’s a tough one for us,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan told NHL.com<\/a>. “He’s been a real good player for us, but once again, our depth will be tested and we’ve got guys that can step up.”<\/p>\n

Conor Sheary Out 4-6 Weeks<\/h2>\n

Sheary had been mainly playing on a line with Sidney Crosby<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and Bryan Rust<\/a><\/strong>; though Patric Hornqvist<\/a><\/strong> replaced Rust in recent games. He has put up 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points in 42 games this season. \u00a0Sheary is third on the Penguins in goals and tied with defenceman Justin Schultz<\/a><\/strong> for fourth in points. \u00a0While his abscence will leave a major hole in the Penguins top-nine; coach Sullivan feels that the defending Stanley Cup Champs have the depth to compensate.<\/p>\n

“We know we have guys that can fill different roles,” Sullivan said, “and that’s been one of the strengths of this team. It will continue to be a strength.”<\/p>\n

The Penguins have been hit hard with injuries of late.\u00a0Evgeni Malkin<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has missed the team’s last two games, and is expected to miss a third when the Penguins take on Columbus on Friday night. \u00a0They also expect to be without Matt Cullen<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>who is has missed six games with a foot injury.<\/p>\n
