The New York Rangers<\/a> have announced that they have signed head coach Alain Vigneault<\/a><\/strong> to a contract extension.<\/p>\n

Vigneault is set to remain with the team through the 2019-20 season and will receive a bump on his annual\u00a0$2 million income.<\/p>\n

New York Rangers Sign Alain Vigneault to a Contract Extension<\/h2>\n

This is Vigneault’s fourth\u00a0season as the Rangers bench boss.\u00a0He took over for John Tortorella<\/strong> in 2013.<\/p>\n

He has a record of\u00a0295-175-97 behind the Rangers bench, and, has made the playoffs in each of his\u00a0first three seasons. In his first year, he coached the team all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals. But, they fell to the Los Angeles Kings<\/a> in five\u00a0games.<\/p>\n

Alain Vigneault previously coached the Vancouver Canucks<\/a> where he also lead them to a Stanley Cup final in 2011, but fell short to the Boston Bruins<\/a>. He won the Jack Adams<\/a> award in his first season behind the Canucks bench back in 2006-07.<\/p>\n

Over his coaching career, he has racked up a .596 points percentage, which is good for 32nd in league history.<\/p>\n

Despite the struggles of Henrik Lundqvist<\/a><\/strong>, Alain Vigneault has managed to keep his Rangers in a playoff position. New York holds the top Wild Card spot in the East with 63 points. They are two points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for second in the Metropolitan division.<\/p>\n

The 31-17-1 Rangers take on the Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> Tuesday night in their first game after the All-Star break.<\/p>\n
