He has tallied 402 goals and 570 assists for 972 career points. In the 2016-17 season with Arizona, Doan played in 74 games, scoring six goals and adding 21 assists for 27 points.

During his 21 year career, Doan has gained respect for his leadership qualities. He was awarded the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2009-10 and the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award in 2011-12.

Doan has also won two gold medals and three silver medals at the World Championships, as well as a World Cup of Hockey Championship in 2004. He represented Team Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin.

At 40 years old, Shane Doan walks away without winning the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup. In his 21 years in the NHL (one in Winnipeg, 20 in Arizona), he has made the postseason just nine times. Doan has made the Conference Finals just once, back in 2011-12 when the Phoenix Coyotes lost in five games to the Los Angeles Kings. He has never been to the Stanley Cup Finals.

His career in Arizona will be remembered for sure, and Doan does not have much to prove. He has established himself as a leader in the NHL and leaves as the greatest Arizona Coyote of all time. His presence was extremely important in the early years after the move to Phoenix.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

TORONTO, ON – DECEMBER 15: Shane Doan #19 of the Arizona Coyotes skates against the Toronto Maple Leafs during an NHL game at the Air Canada Centre on December 15, 2016 in

Veteran winger Shane Doan has announced his retirment.
