{"id":57914,"date":"2019-10-02T13:58:54","date_gmt":"2019-10-02T17:58:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/?p=57914"},"modified":"2019-10-03T15:34:39","modified_gmt":"2019-10-03T19:34:39","slug":"arizona-coyotes-re-sign-darcy-kuemper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/10\/02\/arizona-coyotes-re-sign-darcy-kuemper\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona Coyotes Re-sign Darcy Kuemper"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"twitter-tweet\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0Arizona Coyotes Have Re-signed Goalie Darcy Kuemper<\/h2>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s star sensation in between the pipes for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Coyotes<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuempda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Darcy Kuemper<\/strong><\/a> has agreed to a two-year extension valued at an AAV of $4.5 million per <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/friedgehnic\/status\/1179435931352420352?s=21\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elliotte Friedman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last season Kuemper accumulated some excellent numbers and almost single-handedily directed the Coyotes to the playoffs, falling short by just four points. He collected a 27-20-8 record. He had a very stellar .925 save percentage to go along with a 2.33 goals against average.<\/p>\n<p>It goes without saying that when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/raantan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Antti Raanta<\/strong><\/a> went down with a season-ending lower body injury the net belonged to Kuemper. He also had five shutouts to add to his resume.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Hearing the Coyotes have reached agreement with goalie Darcy Kuemper on a two-year extension.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Craig Morgan (@craigsmorgan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/craigsmorgan\/status\/1179434309591023616?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 2, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>What This Means Going Forward<\/h3>\n<p>It appears that Kuemper showed his worth by playing so well last season, and deserved a contract renewal. With Raanta&#8217;s unreliable status with injuries, Kuemper will be the man. He now earns more than Raanta by $250,000, but the important key is that Kuemper should be the number-one starting goalie. It would be more than necessary for Raanta to get back into the swing of things but he seems to plagued with injury issues.<\/p>\n<p>Just to be safe the Coyotes claimed goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2019\/10\/01\/arizona-coyotes-claim-eric-comrie-off-waivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Eric Comrie<\/strong><\/a> off of waivers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a>. He is signed to a reasonable $700,000 contract through the 2020-21 season. The team also has some depth with two qualified goalies in their AHL affiliate in Tucson.
