The Arizona Coyotes<\/a> have claimed Winnipeg Jets<\/a> goalie Eric Comrie<\/a><\/strong> off waivers. Comrie was placed on waivers by Winnipeg on Monday.<\/p>\n

Eric Comrie<\/a> Claimed by Coyotes<\/h2>\n

Comrie has played only for the Winnipeg Jets in his three-year NHL career. He has a career record of 2-3-0 in five games. He has a career goals against average of 4.21 and an .870 save percentage. Winnipeg drafted the Edmonton native in the second round, 59th overall of the 2013 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Last season he lost his only start of the season and had 5.01 goals against average. His save percentage was .821 in that game.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old posted a 25-20-2 record<\/a> with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose last season, recording a .917 save percentage and a 2.69 goals-against average. He signed a two-year contract worth $700,000 per season during the summer.<\/p>\n

He played his junior hockey with the Tri-City Americans of the WHL and was named second team All-Star in the West Division in 2013-14.<\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/h2>\n

The Jets were hoping that Comire would have cleared waivers so he could start the season with the Manitoba Moose. Winnipeg’s goaltending duo of Connor Hellebuyck<\/a> <\/strong>and Laurent Brossoit<\/a><\/strong> was set. Comrie wasn’t able to claim the backup job and was placed on waivers by Winnipeg.<\/p>\n

Comire gets a chance to stay in the NHL with the Coyotes. It looks like the injury to Antti Raanta<\/a> <\/strong>may be a little more serious than indicated. The Finn has been out with a lower-body injury the last week. Arizona called up Ivan Prosvetov<\/strong> on Thursday to backup Darcy Kuemper<\/a><\/strong>. Raanta has struggled to stay healthy with injury issues the last couple of seasons.<\/p>\n

The young goalie has been solid in the AHL, but struggled in the NHL in a small sample size. Comire is looking to prove himself to at least be a capable NHL backup and will have that chance with Raanta out.<\/p>\n
