Pagnotta stated the general manager Lou Lamoriello has been trying to deal Hickey since last season, but there haven\u2019t been any takers<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Islanders have tried to trade Hickey, going back to last season. I guess no deal worth doing led to waivers. He joins <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fritzta01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tanner Fritz<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hosanjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joshua Ho-Sang<\/a><\/strong> as the team&#8217;s final cuts, as they round out their<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2019\/09\/06\/puck-drop-preview-2019-20-new-york-islanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> 2019-20 lineup<\/a>. To many, Hickey&#8217;s waiving isn&#8217;t much of a surprise. He&#8217;s managed a combined 115 points in 449 NHL games, all with the Islanders. Four of these 115 points came last season, a disappointing conclusion to the potential end of his tenure in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Hickey was limited to only 40 games last year after taking an <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2018\/12\/19\/islanders-homas-hickey-hurt\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">awkward slide into the boards<\/a> in mid-December. He missed two months of play as a result of the injury. After returning on February 26, Hickey appeared in only eight of the team&#8217;s remaining 21 games. This was the result of continued injury and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/toewsde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devon Toews<\/a><\/strong> taking over his roster spot.<\/p>\n<p>Toews is, again, overtaking Hickey headed into the new season. This move also opens the door for prospects like <strong>Noah Dobson<\/strong>. Dobson has spent the last three seasons in the QMJHL, where he&#8217;s put up admirable numbers. Last season, he tallied 52 points in 56 games.<\/p>\n<p>The Islanders are clearly fond of Dobson after a strong pre-season showing. He&#8217;s spent a modest amount of time paired alongside <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/leddyni01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Leddy<\/a><\/strong> during the exhibition games, leading many to believe that the two will appear together in the Islanders season opener on Friday.<\/p>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dallas Stars<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em>Rumour: TSN\u2019s Bob McKenzie said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/radio\/toronto-1050\/mckenzie-marner-contract-looks-like-an-outlier-especially-compared-to-rantanen-1.1374137\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TSN1050 in Toronto<\/a> that the Stars want a second or third-round pick or a young player for displaced defenceman <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/honkaju01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julius Honka<\/a>.<\/strong> General manager <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nillji01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jim Nill<\/a> wants to get something decent in return for the former first-round pick in 2014.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Analysis: Honka can\u2019t seem to crack one of the better defensive groups in the league, featuring <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/klingjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Klingberg<\/a><\/strong>,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/heiskmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Miro <\/strong><\/a><\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/heiskmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Heiskanen<\/a><\/strong>, <span data-contrast=\"auto\">and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindees01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Esa<\/strong><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindees01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Lindell<\/strong><\/a>. Honka had plenty of promise when drafted 14<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> overall in the 2014 NHL Draft. Teams like the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> (pre-<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/faulkju01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Faulk<\/a><\/strong> deal), <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a> have been linked to the young Finn. Carolina may be out of the market, but Montreal and Winnipeg would love him as a defensive option. However, his asking price is high no matter who calls about a trade.
