The injury happened went a Nashville player fell on Dzingel’s leg coming off a faceoff. Dzingel went straight to the locker room and did not return. The team will continue to evaluate the injury before determining his status for the final preseason game and beyond. From the sound of things, it appears Dzingel could miss several contests to start the 2019-20 season.

Dzingel To Be A Vital Piece

Dzingel was one of several players that left the Columbus Blue Jackets for greener pastures. He signed a two-year contract with the Hurricanes in the summer that will pay him $3.25 million this season and $3.5 million in 2020-21. In 78 games last season split between the Ottawa Senators and Blue Jackets, he scored 56 points (26 goals, 30 assists).

While he helped the Blue Jackets make the playoffs last season, he was a nonfactor once the playoffs begin. It was hard for him to adjust to surroundings so quickly, that is why he looked for a new start in Carolina. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour felt Dzingel would be a vital piece for the Hurricanes this season. With Dzingel’s speed and offensive prowess the team felt he would fit right into their style of play. The Hurricanes felt he also could help with their struggling power play. Considering Dzingel had five power-play goals last season and 11 power-play points, he could offset the departure of Justin Williams.

Now with Dzingel injured and the threat of missing time in the regular season, the Hurricanes will have to fall back to Plan B. For a team that struggles with scoring goals losing Dzingel for any significant amount of time will hurt.
Embed from Getty Images

The Carolina Hurricanes could be without Ryan Dzingel for quite some time.
