Domi currently makes $3.15 million this season and scored 28 goals last year for the Canadiens.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><em>Analysis:<\/em> Bergevin getting out in front of a contract extension is a smart move. The bridge deal worked out for both sides as <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Domi<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> was able to produce while being able to hedge their bet. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Domi<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> was inconsistent at times with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Coyotes<\/a>, but found his game in Montreal.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Canadiens have been getting good value with <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Domi<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/drouijo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonathan Drouin<\/a> <\/strong>last season. Sportsnet\u2019s Elliotte Friedman said that the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/ducks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anaheim Ducks<\/a> are in the running to land the defenceman, but details have to be ironed out.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/FriedgeHNIC\/status\/1171109553871740928<\/p>\n<p><em>James Mirtle of The Athletic reported that the 27-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mirtle\/status\/1171110316261990402\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has a modified no-trade clause<\/a> that is holding things up. Ducks Athletic reporter Eric Stephens said Anaheim\u2019s pursuit of Faulk is the latest in the team looking for a high-end blueliner. Stephens reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/icemancometh\/status\/1171114112660623360\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anaheim was in the running<\/a> for <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/shattke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Shattenkirk<\/a> <\/strong>but lost out to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><em>Analysis:<\/em> Carolina would love to get some sort of offensive return or cap space in a deal. The Canes have just over $1.5 million worth of cap space left and trading the American <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">defenceman<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> would give the team some breathing room. The Ducks are trying to lock down the righthanded shot who is coming to the end of a six-year, $29 million deal. The two defenceman are the biggest named RFA defencemen without deals at the moment.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>McKenzie stated that the Werenski contract likely won\u2019t get the ball moving with the deep forward class. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><em>Analysis:<\/em> Talks had <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">slowed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> with all the RFAs until the first domino fell. McKenzie added McAvoy would like to stay with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a> but wants a <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">6-8 year<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> deal. The 21-year-old isn\u2019t interested in a bridge deal. Both sides have been open for contracts of anywhere from three to six years. It doesn\u2019t look like a long-term deal is in the cards.
