The trade was announced by the team just after 1 a.m. EST.<\/p>\n<p>The Maple Leafs signed Enroth as a free agent in the off-season with plans for him to play backup to goaltender to\u00a0<strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/anderfr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frederik Andersen<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/strong>However, Enroth struggled\u00a0this season\u00a0putting up an 0-3-1 record with a 3.94 goals-against-average and .872% save percentage.<\/p>\n<p>Enroth was waived in December and assigned to Toronto&#8217;s AHL affiliate team, the Toronto Marlies. He put up a\u00a02-1-0 record with a 3.03 goals-against-average and a .904% save percentage before being called back up by the Leafs on Sunday.<\/p>\n<h2>Backup Options<\/h2>\n<p>The extensive search for a solid backup goaltender continues for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Shortly before this trade, the Leafs\u00a0claimed goaltender <strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcelhcu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Curtis McElhinney<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> off waivers from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>With Enroth gone, the Leafs will look towards McElhinney or <strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bibeaan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Antoine Bibeau<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> to be the\u00a0backup goaltender for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n<p>McElhinney has a 2-1-2 record this season playing for Columbus with a 2.39 goals-against-average and a .924% save percentage. Over the course of his entire career, McElhinney has a\u00a045-59-12 record with a 2.96 goals-against-average and a .905% save percentage.<\/p>\n<p>Antoine Bibeau has been the Leafs backup goaltender for the recent portion of this season after Enroth was assigned to the Marlies. He has a 1-1-0 record this season with a\u00a01.98 goals-against-average and a .927% save percentage.<\/p>\n<p>The Leafs will have to decide who will play backup to Andersen in the next couple of days.
