News emerged that the <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/haytoba01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-09_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barrett Hayton<\/a> offer sheet was matched by the Mammoth<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2026\/07\/01\/barrett-hayton-offer-sheet\/\" target=\"_self\"> after an offer<\/a> from the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2026\/07\/01\/nico-hischier-extension\/\" target=\"_self\"> New Jersey Devils<\/a> came in last week. The 26-year-old had 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points in 67 games last season. He averaged 15 minutes, seven seconds of ice time. That is down from his regular career average of 15:52 per game. Hayton had a Corsi for of 58.3 and a relative Corsi of 8.3.<\/p>\n<p>The Peterborough, Ontario native has 65 goals and 90 assists for 155 points in 358 career games. Arizona originally drafted him in the first round, fifth overall of the 2018 NHL Draft. He played for the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/amateurs\/team.cgi?t=ssm01\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sault\u00a0Ste.\u00a0Marie\u00a0Greyhounds<\/a> of the Ontario Hockey League during his major junior career.<\/p>\n<p>He has also represented his native Canada at the international level. Hayton <span>captained Team Canada at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship, leading his team to a gold medal with 6-6\u201312 and 6 PIM in seven contests. Hayton was injured last season, but has put up 20-goal seasons in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong cannot trade Hayton until July 1, 2027, when he becomes a free agent anyways. The veteran general manager said that Hayton &#8220;<span>\u00a0is a key piece of our team.&#8221; His skill on the face-off dot and defensive acumen made him desirable to teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>However, Hayton is staying put at least for this season.
