He actually went to the USHL, then off to NCAA at the University of Maine for two years, and then back to the USHL. His determination for wanting to make a go of it for professional hockey cannot be understated. The Calgary Flames organization gave him his first shot, as he played the 2015-16 in the ECHL with the Adirondack Thunder and the AHL’s Stockton Heat. However, it was with the Florida Panthers where he really grew his game to where it is today. His time in Florida included playoffs games during their 2024 Stanley Cup Championship run.

Now, his last two seasons in Calgary he has provided speed, toughness, and veteran grit to a roster that has largely been in transition. In his 394 career NHL games, he has 35 goals, 37 assists, and 72 points, along with 475 penalty minutes. This is a great move to boost your bottom-six forward group and to help guide the young players in the dressing room. Mix a bit of style, with good, old-fashioned work ethic. Congrats Lomberg on the new deal.

This will help fill the void felt by the loss of former captain Boone Jenner. Lomberg will be able to bring some of what he brought to the lineup, night in, night out. Lomberg may take on a bigger role than he was used to in Columbus, but he will be ready for the responsibility.

Main Photo Credit: Stephen R.
