Today, a 33-year-old veteran has made his splash in the 2026 summer free agency pool as he just inked a deal with the Detroit Red Wings and general manager Steve Yzerman. Viktor Arvidsson<\/a> contract details broke today, and the reliable Swede is rewarded for a solid 2025-26 campaign. He has signed a two-year contract<\/a>, worth an average annual value of $5 million. Let’s discuss the details.<\/p>\n

Viktor Arvidsson Contract Details are No Surprise for Bruin Fans<\/h2>\n

Arvidsson has earned the reputation as someone who is hard to play against, and makes it tough to check off the puck. Coaches love those guys in today’s game. He has the skating and skill to compete with the young crowd to boot.<\/p>\n

Arvidsson is a six-time, 20-goal scorer, with a career high of 34 from 2018-19 as a member of the Nashville Predators. Over his career, he has played 682 career regular season games, 219 goals and 224 assists for 443 points. He also has accumulated 91 career games of Stanley Cup Playoff action<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At this point, it does seem like big things are still in store. Arvidsson is coming off a very good 2025-26, as a member of the Boston Bruins<\/a>. He had 69 games played, scored 25 goals and added 29 assists. Furthermore, what helped make his individual success and, in parts, what contributed to the team’s overall success from this past season, was the Bruin line combinations. Arvidsson played on a line with Pavel Zacha<\/a> and Casey Mittelstadt<\/a> for quite an inpressive lion’s share of the season. For instance, based on MoneyPuck’s data, filtering on 300 minutes<\/a>, only 36 line combinations played that many minutes together this season. The Arvidsson, Zacha, Mittelstadt-combo played the third most in the league (585 minutes). Their 41 goals they are credited with recording as a line in 2025-26, was also the third most, league-wide. Boston had great rotation throughout their forward lines, that can be greatly credited to the work of Arvidsson, and line.<\/p>\n

He is a smart and skill guy, and it will be interesting to see if he can develop good chemistry in 2026-27. If he does, this deal has the makings of all the right ingredients. Detroit has lots of skilled forwards, and they are sure to find a fit for Arvidsson somewhere in those line combinations. This will help to soften the blow felt by the organization with Dylan Larkin’s request to be shipped out of town.<\/p>\n
