All along, the Ottawa Senators<\/a> were seemingly going to be welcoming back one of their likable veterans and fan favourites. However, as the free agency period approached, and there were rumblings he wanted to test the open market, on Friday afternoon we find out why courtesy of NHL Rumours. We had passed along that David Pagnotta reported that the 38-year-old forward Claude Giroux<\/a> contract signed to bring the veteran back to his former team, the Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>. But as we sit here a day later, still no such contract has been signed.<\/p>\n

NHL Rumours On the Claude Giroux Contract with the Philadelphia Flyers<\/h2>\n

Rumour:<\/em> After Pagnotta initially reported Giroux signed in Philly, we will give the last word to Sens insider Bruce Garrioch who says Philly is “in the mix<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

Analysis<\/strong>: It is very likely Giroux will indeed sign in Philly, but Ottawa is apparently not out of the running.<\/p>\n

Giroux had been instrumental with the Sens since his arrival. He had been invaluable for young players like Shane Pinto<\/a> and Tim Stutzle<\/a>. His work in the faceoff circle had elevated the team\u2019s ability as a whole. Furthermore, Giroux\u2019s playmaking had helped to power the depth scoring, as well as consistently producing on the power play. Just like he has done his entire career really, even back to his previous days in South Pennsylvania. It was thought he would return to his hometown regional Sens, he might have other plans.<\/p>\n
