The Carolina Hurricanes will go for a 2-0 series against the Philadelphia Flyers in this second game of the best-of-seven series. There was some worry about if Carolina would be rusty after having a week off. The Hurricanes took care of business with a 3-0 victory in the opening game.

Logan Stankoven scored twice to bump his goal totals to six in five games. Frederik Andersen also continued his amazing play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 19 saves to get the shutout. If the Danish netminder can sustain this pace, the Hurricanes could be the favourite to hoist the vaunted silver chalice.

Philadelphia looked lost at times in the opening game of this second-round series. The Flyers haven’t been this deep into the postseason since the COVID bubble, and it showed. Rick Tocchet‘s team will have to do much better in Game 2 if it has any designs on gaining a split against Carolina.

Let’s take a look at the statistics and storylines for Game 2 in this latest edition of NHL predictions.

The Flyers Story

Some thought Philadelphia might have a chance to steal the opening game after Carolina’s long layoff. However, that wasn’t the case after Stankoven scored just 91 seconds into the game. The Flyers never really found their footing and only managed 19 shots on goal.

Daniel Vladar is expected to get the start once again. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Vladar stopped 20 shots in a losing effort for Philadelphia.

The Flyers didn’t really threaten Andersen’s net very much in Game 1. Philadelphia missed having Owen Tippett in the lineup and the offence is hoping the team’s leading goalscorer can return at some point in the series.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBozNCdNP4" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3000px; aspect-ratio: 3000/2146;" ></smartframe-embed>

(Credit Image: © Dirk Shadd/Tampa Bay Times via ZUMA Press Wire)

The Hurricanes Story

Game 1 for Carolina went just as well as anyone would have wanted to go. The Hurricanes got an early lead and imposed their will on the Flyers. Carolina never made Philadelphia feel comfortable at any point in this game. The Hurricanes have a great chance to put this series out of reach again with another dominant performance in Game 2.

Goaltending has long been a problem for Carolina in its most-recent Stanley Cup Playoff runs. However, Andersen has only given up five goals in five games this postseason. If Andersen can keep it going, Carolina will be tough to beat.

Stankoven is making an early case for the Conn Smythe Trophy with six goals and five games. Taylor Hall is playing like the Hart Trophy winner that he was with two goals and six assists for eight points.

Prediction

There’s little doubt that the Flyers are going to put up a much better effort in Game 2. Philadelphia is also hoping that Tippet can balance out the line combinations. However, the Hurricanes are a deep lineup and are on a mission. Carolina knows that it hast to make it to the Stanley Cup Final to have its season be considered a successful one.

Prediction: Hurricanes 3-1.

Best Bets

We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night.
