We’re deep into the first round of the Stanely Cup Playoffs. However, the hot stove talk doesn’t stop. There were 16 teams that made the postseason. However, there are 16 other teams that are trying to find answers to why they’re on the golf course. General managers are looking to reshape their respective lineups in the coming offseason. However, there may need to be some major moves in order to shake things up.

One team that may need to make some massive swings is the Seattle Kraken. This edition of NHL rumours deals with a young forward that could be moved in the offseason.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

NHL Rumours

Seattle Kraken Could Deal Young Forward This Offseason

Rumour: David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period appeared on the Oilersnation Everyday show late last week. The insider mentioned that the Kraken could deal Shane Wright in the offseason.

Analysis: It’s been an inconsistent tenure for the former fourth overall pick of the 2022 NHL Draft. The former Kingston Frontenacs standout netted 12 goals after hitting a career-high 19 in the 2024-25 season. However, so much more is expected out of a player that was slated to be the top overall selection of that draft class.

Seattle has only made the Stanley Cup Playoffs once in the team’s five years in the league. The Kraken have already been through three head coaches in that tenure after hiring former New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert last offseason. Ron Francis, who has been with the franchise from the start, stepped away from the team just recently.

The Kraken have yet to replicate the success that the Vegas Golden Knights have had since they came into the league. Seattle wants to finally get back into the playoffs after its only trip resulted in a surprise win over the Colorado Avalanche.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOB7g9cZqpT" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5303px; aspect-ratio: 5303/3535;" ></smartframe-embed>

(Credit Image: © Paul Christian Gordon/ZUMA Wire)

What It Means

However, it may mean that general manager Jason Botterill will have to make some tough decisions. The Kraken have been in the mix to try to land a big player. It was rumoured that the team was in the mix to land Artemi Panarin from the New York Rangers. However, the Russian sniper ended up going to the Los Angeles Kings.

Botterill will want to make a massive move, and this leads us back to Wright’s future. The 22-year-old has yet to really get traction in the Pacific Northwest. Wright did use time in the AHL to round out his game and there was hope he’d take the next step. However, that did not bear fruit this season.

Pagnotta mentions that Wright hasn’t specifically made a trade request. However, both sides don’t seem to be against the idea. The insider mentioned that everyone would be comfortable with a move should the opportunity arise.

It’s been a difficult tenure for Wright and a fresh start in a new location could do him some good. Plus, Seattle could get some sort of return and move forward. Wright has another year on his contract at just under $890,000 per season. His deal would be pretty easy to move but a deal has to take shape first.

Main photo by: Sergei Belski-Imagn Images

It’s time for some more NHL rumours.
