Colorado won Game 1 by a score of 2-1. Despite the score, the Avalanche dominated the majority of play, possessing the puck for large stretches of the game and having more quality looks. However, they need to be opportunistic and finish plays. Ultimately, their push came too late in Game 1, with Artemi Panarin getting the team on the board with just 2:22 left in the third. One thing they can build on is their physical play. After averaging just over 20 hits per game in the regular season, the Kings delivered 49 hits in Game 1. “We gotta be more physical, we gotta hit their D more. I expect that in the next game,” head coach D.J. Smith said postgame after Game 1.

The Avalanche Story

Colorado played virtually a perfect game in Game 1, dominating puck possession for most of the game. They showed that they were comfortable playing in a low-scoring, tight-checking game. If they could just get their power play, which went scoreless in four tries in the first game, going, they will be golden. Artturi Lehkonen and Logan O’Connor scored the two goals in Game 1, while their star Nathan MacKinnon recorded an assist.

Starting Goalies

Below are the projected starters for tonight’s game.
