But, it’s not for the reasons you would think. The Rangers stink and are last in the Eastern Conference. Tampa should win this, even though they can’t catch the Buffalo Sabres for the Atlantic Division title, they want to stay ahead of the Montreal Canadiens, and secure home-ice advantage in their opening-round matchup. Tampa brings elite scoring and a familiar backbone in net, while New York counters with a team just looking to avoid losing any more players to injuries. Tampa comes in off a 4–3 win over the Detroit Red Wings, powered by Nikita Kucherov’s overtime goal. The Rangers, meanwhile, are trying to halt a three-game losing streak.

Tampa Bay Lightning Outlook

Tampa Bay continues to operate like a team that refuses to acknowledge any talk of decline. The core remains elite, scoring 3.51 goals per game. The power play is still lethal at 21.0%, 16th in the league. Finally, Kucherov (44 goals, 86 assists) remains one of the most dangerous offensive players on the planet. Jake Guentzel (38 goals, 50 assists) continues to be a clinical finisher, while Darren Raddysh anchors the defence. The biggest X-Factor is still Vasilevskiy. When he’s on, Tampa doesn’t need to dominate. Rather, they just need to capitalize on chances and avoid catastrophic mistakes. The challenge? The Rangers can sometimes thrive in transition and can flip a turnover into a groan for the hometown Tampa fans.

Keys to Victory – Tampa Bay

NHL Predictions thinks Tampa needs to manage the neutral zone like it’s a fragile family heirloom. The Rangers feast on quick-strike opportunities, and careless puck movement will get punished immediately. Stay out of the penalty box. Even with the Bolts owning a 82.7% penalty kill, third in the league, New York’s power play, with Mika Zibanejad pulling strings and Adam Fox as the quarterback, is not something you want to test repeatedly. Also, get traffic on the goaltender early. Whether it’s Igor Shesterkin or Jonathan Quick, clean looks won’t cut it.

New York Rangers Outlook

The Rangers are just trying to ride this last game of the season out without injury or issue. But players are always trying to play for their next contract or achieve a pay bonus milestone. So, expect an effort, as long as the game isn’t a blowout. Zibanejad (33 goals, 43 assists) remains a dual threat as both a shooter and playmaker. Defensively, the Rangers can be…adventurous. When they’re structured, they could be dangerous. When they’re not, games turn into track meets very quickly. Goaltending remains iffy. The Rangers sit at 3.05 goals against per game, 15th in the league. Shesterkin has the ability to steal games outright, especially against high-powered teams like Tampa, but Jonathan Quick has announced his retirement, so let’s see what happens for this final game of his career.

Keys to Victory – New York

NHL Predictions says the Rangers need to lean into their speed and transition game. Tampa is strong, but not immune to being stretched. Capitalize on turnovers. The Lightning occasionally get loose with puck management, and New York can still turn mistakes into goals. On the power play? Be decisive. The Rangers are sixth in the league at 24.5%. Tampa’s penalty kill is aggressive, so quick puck movement and one-touch shooting will be key. And defensively, try, at least occasionally, to make life easy on your goaltender.

NHL Predictions: Who Takes the W?

This matchup feels like chaos waiting to happen. Tampa has the structure, experience, and home ice. New York has… to play this game.

Prediction: Lightning 5, Rangers 2

Prop Bets of the Night

Disclaimer: Please check social media for the latest lineup news and betting lines before locking in your daily fantasy rosters or using these suggestions as law.

Tampa Bay:

Kucherov Over 1.5 Points – He tends to show up in big matchups…loudly.

New York:

Zibanejad Anytime Goal – When the game opens up, he’s usually in the middle of it.

Final Thoughts

NHL Predictions sees Tampa looking to reinforce its status as a contender on home ice, while the Rangers are trying to prove they can play this game like it’s the first of the year, rather than the last.

Please play responsibly and check your local rules and age restrictions; some jurisdictions require ages 21+.
