After the New York Islanders jumped up and won the draft lottery, the Blackhawks fell one spot, landing them the third overall selection and the opportunity to pick Frondell. The six-foot-one centre is coming off an impressive season with Djurgardens in the SHL, where he posted 20 goals and 28 points in 43 games played. Djurgardens’ season ended in the playoffs on Saturday, paving the way for Frondell’s debut tonight.

Anton Frondell Scouting Report: 2025 NHL Draft #5

What It Means Moving Forward

This is incredibly exciting news for Hawks fans. The biggest missing piece for Chicago has been finding a winger for superstar Connor Bedard. Some veterans, including Tyler Bertuzzi, have seen some success, but Frondell could be a mainstay in the Blackhawks’ top-six forward group for years to come. That process begins tonight, as Frondell will see himself on the top line with Bedard and Ryan Greene.

Blackhawks lines in morning skate at Islanders:

Greene-Bedard-Frondell
Bertuzzi-Nazar-Lardis
Burakovsky-Donato-Mikheyev
Teravainen-Lafferty-Slaggert
Boisvert rotating in

Vlasic-Levshunov
Kaiser-Rinzel
Del Mastro-Crevier

Soderblom in starter’s crease

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) March 24, 2026

There is not a lot that Frondell can’t do on the ice. His frame allows him to play a bigger style, while the hallmark of his game is his shot. His release is quick and powerful, and he should see success in the NHL, particularly on the power play. Expect Frondell to add a dangerous element to Chicago’s man advantage.

While Frondell has to prove worthy of his roster spot, there is much reason to believe he can be in the Windy City for the long haul. Hawks fans are hoping that tonight is the beginning of a long tenure as a Blackhawk.

Main Photo Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled 2025 third-overall selection Anton Frondell to the NHL.
