He has played in 61 games this season, recording 12 goals and 16 assists for a total of 28 points.

The 17-year vet has played on three different teams, and New York will make four. The Los Angeles Kings, the Philadelphia Flyers and the St. Louis Blues. He has one Stanley Cup in his time with the Blues in 2018-19 on his resume as well.

What It Means

The New York Islanders are in the middle of a push for a playoff spot this season. With two trades made by the team already, they felt like they needed more forward help. They have been struggling to produce goals lately, so they go and acquire Schenn, who has eight 20-goal seasons in his career. Schenn has the flexibility to play on the wing or centre and has Stanley Cup playoff experience. He should expect to slide right into a similar role to the one he was already playing with the Blues in the top 6.

St. Louis is out of playoff contention, so this trade makes sense for them as well. Scheen is 34 and has two more years on his deal at $6.5 million per year. Although he was the current captain, he is not part of the team’s future plans. This was a move to try to get younger and shed salary while acquiring draft capital in the process.

Main photo by: Jeff Curry-Imagn Images

In the final hour before the trade deadline.
