However, the Sharks aren&#8217;t making a trade. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/sharks\/news\/sharks-sign-goaltender-alex-nedeljkovic-to-a-two-year-contract-extension\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">News emerged<\/a> that the Sharks have extended veteran goaltender Alex <span>Nedeljkovic to a two-year contract worth $6 million. This deal carries an average cap hit of $3 million and runs through the end of the 2026-26 season. News of the contract was first broken by Chris Johnston.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bluesky-embed\" data-bluesky-uri=\"at:\/\/did:plc:zazcjahlcb3jfrhcriq7xpn7\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3mgfpmrq6qk2b\" data-bluesky-cid=\"bafyreibw476jqeehe6f34vu53sfxgi7uztjnul57wkk2jr4geh6gcvtg54\">\n<p lang=\"en\">The San Jose Sharks have agreed to a two-year extension with Alex Nedeljkovic at $3M AAV, per Chris Johnston.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; <a  href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:zazcjahlcb3jfrhcriq7xpn7?ref_src=embed\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TSN (@tsnofficial.bsky.social)<\/a> <a  href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:zazcjahlcb3jfrhcriq7xpn7\/post\/3mgfpmrq6qk2b?ref_src=embed\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2026-03-06T16:17:58.494Z<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.bsky.app\/static\/embed.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>San Jose Sharks Extend Alex <span>Nedeljkovic on a Two-Year Deal<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>Nedeljkovic has played for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2026\/02\/16\/carolina-hurricanes-goalie-inks-contract-extension\/\" target=\"_self\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2026\/02\/26\/nhl-predictions-senators-edition-detroit-red-wings-at-ottawa\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Red Wings,<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2026\/03\/05\/nhl-predictions-buffalo-sabres-pittsburgh-penguins-march-5\/\" target=\"_self\"> Pittsburgh Penguins,<\/a> and the Sharks across his nine-year NHL career. The Parma, Ohio native has an 11-9-2 record with a 2.83 goals-against-average and a .902 save percentage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nedeljkovic has a career record of 85-69-29 with a 2.97 GAA and a .903 save percentage. The 30-year-old netminder has nine career shutouts. Carolina originally drafted him in the second round, 37th overall of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He finished third in the Calder Trophy voting at the 2020-21 season and made the All-Rookie team that season. <span>Nedeljkovic also backstopped the Charlotte Checkers to the Calder Cup in 2019. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The goalie has also represented his native United States at the international level. He won a bronze medal at the 2016 IIHF World Juniors and was on the fifth-place team at the 2024 IIHF World.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>What It Means<\/h3>\n<p><span>Nedeljkovic has formed a solid partnership with <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/askarya01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-03-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yaroslav Askarov<\/a> in San Jose. We&#8217;ve seen the Sharks take a big step this season and Nedeljkovic has turned into a solid backup. He can also step up if something should happen to Askarov.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Sharks will more than likely miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, general manager <a  target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/griermi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-03-06_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Grier<\/a> seems to have the team on the right path. This club may only be a season or two away from really pushing for a postseason spot.<\/p>\n<p><span>Nedeljkovic is what you want out of a veteran backup goalie.
