Many didn’t expect the Flyers to be in the mix, but the Maple Leafs are running out of time to turn things around.

The Flyers are coming off a victory against the Boston Bruins and have been doing better since the start of the calendar year. Philadelphia may not end up in a postseason spot, but there has been tangible progress in year one with Rick Tocchet as the team’s head coach.

Toronto is facing an uphill climb to get back into the playoff picture. The Maple Leafs sit in eighth in the Atlantic Division and could be sellers at the trade deadline. This game is one of the few chances the team has left in order get on track.

Let’s take a look at the statistics and the storylines heading into this Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions.

The Flyers Story

Philadelphia comes into this game with a 4-4-2 mark in its last 10 games. However, the Flyers did get victories over the New York Rangers and the Bruins in their first games back from the break. Philadelphia currently sits in sixth in the Metropolitan Division.

Daniel Vladar is the expected starter for the Flyers in this game. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. The Czech Olympian has a 17-8-6 record with a .905 save percentage and 2.36 goals-against-average.

Travis Konecny leads the team in goals (23), assists (34), and points (57) so far this season. Trevor Zegras is also having a solid first campaign after coming over from the Anaheim Ducks.

The Maple Leafs Story

Toronto enters this Eastern Conference game with a 3-7 record in its last 10 games. This includes defeats in all three of their games after returning from the Winter Olympics. Saturday night’s 5-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators has made things very real for the Leafs.

Joseph Woll is the projected starter for the Maple Leafs. However, he was pulled in the loss to Ottawa on Saturday night in favour of Anthony Stolarz. Woll is going to need a bounce-back outing if Toronto wants to get back on track.

William Nylander is first on the team in assists (36) and points (55) so far this campaign. However, Auston Matthews is first in goals with 26.

Prediction

Both teams are in need of points if they want to keep up with the teams currently in the Stanley Cup Playoff spots. Philadelphia has been in better form as of late. However, Toronto did get a win in the first encounter.

The Maple Leafs need to find out if they will be jockeying for a spot because time is running out.

Prediction: Maple Leafs win 4-2.

Best Bets

We close out this Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night.
