We have another Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions as the Edmonton Oilers<\/a> visit the Winnipeg Jets.<\/a> Both teams are coming off losses on Saturday night, but the Oilers are in a much better place than the hosts.<\/p>\n

Edmonton lost the latest installment of the Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames<\/a> by a 3-2 margin. The Oilers are hoping to find more consistency as the calendar year draws to a close.<\/p>\n

Winnipeg won the President’s Trophy last season, but things have gone off the rails in the first part of the 2025-26 campaign. Injuries and scoring troubles have put the Jets behind the eight ball in a rough-and-tumble Central Division.<\/p>\n

Let’s take a look at this final Prime Monday Night Hockey edition of NHL predictions before the New Year. We dive into the statistics and storylines going into this matchup.<\/p>\n

The Oilers Story<\/h3>\n

Edmonton is 6-3-1 in its previous 10 games but is coming off that loss to Calgary. The Oilers have stabilized after some early season jitters but do have some work to do.<\/p>\n

Calvin Pickard<\/a> is the confirmed starter for the Oilers, as Tristan Jarry<\/a> is still out of the lineup. Edmonton will have to lean on the veteran netminder more as it awaits Jarry’s return to the lineup. However, Pickard has shown he can be a capable backup.<\/p>\n

Connor McDavid<\/a> is off to another blistering start with 24 goals and 44 assists for 68 points. Leon Draisaitl<\/a> is also approaching the 60-point mark with 56 so far this campaign.<\/p>\n

The Jets Story<\/h3>\n

Winnipeg is hoping the flip to 2026 will mean a return to its 2024-25 season form. The Jets have struggled to put pucks in the net and to get that consistency that drove them to the best record in the league. The Jets are on a five-game losing streak entering this game.<\/p>\n

Connor Hellebuyck<\/a> returned to the lineup earlier this month. However, the defending Hart and Vezina Trophy can only do so much. The former UMass-Lowell product is the expected starter but always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter.<\/p>\n

Despite the team’s struggles, both Kyle Connor<\/a> and Mark Scheifele<\/a> have been putting up points for the Jets. The duo is tied for the team’s lead in points with 45.<\/p>\n

Prediction<\/h3>\n

The two teams are trying to find a way to close out the calendar year on a winning note. Both teams have a game on New Year’s Eve, with the Oilers taking on the Boston Bruins<\/a> and the Jets play the Detroit Red Wings.<\/a><\/p>\n

Winnipeg is capable of shutting down the best teams on its best day. However, the Jets have too many questions to answer against the two-time defending Western Conference champions.<\/p>\n

Prediction: Oilers win 4-2.<\/em><\/p>\n

Prop Bets of the Night<\/h3>\n

We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over\/under for the Oilers versus the Jets is 6.5, and we like the under in this game.<\/p>\n
