Goaltender Karel Vejmelka played arguably one of his best games of the season, stopping 31 out of 32. Utah called up rookie forward Danil But to spark the team, and so far it’s paid off. The Mammoth have scored 11 goals in the previous two games.

When it comes to special teams, the Mammoth have a disadvantage. Utah has just two power play goals in 10 games. On the other hand, the Flames have an excellent penalty kill, which is ranked sixth.

Vejmelka played the first game of the back-to-back, so Vitek Vanecek (2-5-1) should get the nod for the Mammoth in Calgary. However, this is a good time to mention our disclaimer. Please check social media for the latest lineup news before locking in your daily fantasy roster.

The Flames Side

After a rough stretch in which they lost five out of six games, the Flames have now won five of their last eight outings. Calgary is coming off an impressive 4-1 home victory against the red hot Minnesota Wild. Leading the way of late has been defenceman Rasmus Andersson. He’s recorded 14 points in his last 10 games and has 20 points on the season. Averaging 24:12 of ice-time, the 29-year-old is an important part of the Flames squad.

In the final year of his contract, the Swede hopes to continue his strong play.

Devin Cooley (3-3-2) is projected to start for the Flames, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Dustin Wolf ended up playing given his recent form.

NHL Prediction:

The Mammoth have had their fair share of struggles defensively recently. Before ending their four-game losing streak, Utah was outscored 15-9, including a 1-0 shutout loss to the St. Louis Blues. The Mammoth allow the 14th most goals on average in the NHL, but still allow the fewest shots. Goaltending has also been an issue for Utah. Vejmelka and Vanecek each have a save percentage below .900.

As for the Flames, they’re ranked dead last in goals per game with 2.34, despite having the 10th most shots on goal per game. Calgary hasn’t been a high scoring team this season, but they’ve found ways to win lately. They finished November strong, winning four out of six and scoring at least three goals in each victory. We believe the Flames will defeat the Mammoth in this matchup.

Prediction: Flames win 3-2

Prop Bets

The Mammoth have the higher betting odds to win this games. They’ve had the better season so far and have a better record than the Flames, but that’s not always the case. The Flames have been better and will likely win on home ice. For goal scorers, look for JJ Peterka to get one for Utah. Due to his recent play, he was elevated from the third line to the first line with Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz.

As a result, Peterka scored twice in Utah’s 7-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks. For Calgary, look for Matt Coronato. While he hasn’t lived up to last year’s scoring form, Coronato still has an elite shot. He scored a goal against the Wild on Thursday.

Main Photo: Rob Gray-Imagn Images

Please play responsibly, check for your local rules and age restrictions; some jurisdictions require ages 21+.
