The Sharks captain is an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Analysis: It\u2019s likely that he will stay with <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">San Jose, but it may be at a reduced rate. Fellow Sharks stalwart<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/thornjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joe Thornton<\/a> <\/strong>has yet to make his future plans known. The man known as &#8220;Captain America&#8221; made $6 million per season under his current deal and the Sharks have space under the cap. Wilson will likely prioritize his younger players, but realizes that he also needs Pavelski as a leader. He helped galvanize the Sharks run to the Western Conference Final.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>New York Islanders<\/h2>\n<p><em>Rumour: Brett Cyrgalis of The New York Post talked about what&#8217;s next for the Isles after signing <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nelsobr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock Nelson<\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/05\/23\/brock-nelson-re-signs-with-islanders\/\" target=\"_self\">to a long-term deal<\/a>. He said the Islanders <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/05\/25\/whats-next-for-islanders-after-brock-nelson-signing\/?fbclid=IwAR07VT5qhGQX9V5VtI5Fpq-RKbso0-uM6j7i08nkizQeD5BEvGwLjLDcGow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">are now trying to lock up captain<\/a> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/leean01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anders Lee<\/a><\/strong> to a contract. However, money and term remain sticking points for the 29-year-old as he&#8217;s looking for a deal befitting a captain of a playoff team.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Analysis: General manager Lou Lamoriello isn&#8217;t one to hand out long-term deals after past experiences. Lee and the Isles could compromise at $7 million a season, but there could be budding interest from the Minnesota Wild. General manager <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fentopa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Fenton<\/a><\/strong> has the bait of bringing the Edina, Minnesota native back to his home state.<\/p>\n<p>Lamoriello knows there&#8217;s a drop-off in quality after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/panarar01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Artemi Panarin<\/strong><\/a>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/skinnje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Skinner<\/a><\/strong> and Lee. The Islanders captain seemingly has the leverage to get the desired deal he wants. New York&#8217;s general manager is hoping that the Lee question resolved before June 23rd. That is when other teams can make pitches to prospective UFAs.<\/p>\n<h2>Minnesota Wild<\/h2>\n<p><em>Rumour: Multiple sources have stated that<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kesseph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phil Kessel<\/a><\/strong> has rejected a trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the team. He and his sister, Amanda, both played for the University of Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>The former Stanley Cup winner will probably be traded as the Pens look to shake up their roster after an early post-season exit. Kessel did score 27 goals for Pittsburgh, but an $8 million cap hit until the end of the 2021-22 season.
