Starting the season on top of the NHL, Pittsburgh has now gone 1-3-2 in November. With multiple blown leads against teams like the Predators and Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh is struggling to perform for a full 60 minutes. Injuries to key forwards such as Rickard Rakell and Justin Brazeau have seemingly unravelled the Penguins’ offensive group, with depth scoring drying up almost completely. In this second game against Nashville, the Penguins will need to rely on their league-leading power play to get the job done for the ever-important two points.

The first game against the Predators on Friday was a low-scoring, tight-checking affair. Superstar Evgeni Malkin scored the Penguins’ only goal, banking a shot off the back of goaltender Jusse Saros’ helmet and into the net. Facing the Predators again, Pittsburgh desperately needs help from its offensive weapons, such as rookie Ben Kindel or veteran Bryan Rust, to beat the star netminder. Swedish defenceman Erik Karlsson was soaring across the ice on Friday, playing in his home country. Expect him to bring the same energy and push for offence against in this game.

The Predators Story

The Nashville Predators came to Sweden ready to play. They outshot the Penguins 30-17, while netminder Jusse Saros shut the Penguins’ offence down for much of the game. Even with the win, Nashville is 6-9-4 on the season. Their 16 points land them tied for second-last in the Western Conference, just four points ahead of Calgary for last place. There has been parity in the league to start the season; however, Nashville sits just four points out of a wildcard spot, as both the Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets hold the spots at 20 points apiece. A hot streak for the Predators could turn the whole season around, depending on their performance in this game.

Aside from Saros, this game was crucial for the struggling Steven Stamkos. The star centre came into Friday’s game with an abysmal three goals and four points through 18 games. This game, however, was a step in the right direction for Stamkos, scoring the overtime game-winner on Penguins netminder Arturs Silovs. Swedish countryman Filip Forsberg also came to play for his home country, scoring the game-tying goal with just a minute and 10 seconds left in the game on a fantastic individual effort. Watch for Forsberg again in this game, as he’ll be hunting for more points playing in front of his home country.

NHL Prediction

The Pittsburgh Penguins put up an awful effort relative to their place in the standings on Friday. Expect them to come out flying in this game, trying to pick up a massive two points against Nashville.

NHL Prediction: Penguins win 5-3.

Prop Bet of the Night

Although the Penguins are struggling, they possess the offensive weapons needed to score in bunches. The Predators, meanwhile, have the weapons to surprise the Penguins’ anemic defence. Expecting a higher scoring game, the popular prop bet of over 7 with odds of +172 is a good bet here.

Main photo by: Per Haljestam-Imagn Images

Please play responsibly, check for your local rules and age restrictions; some jurisdictions require ages 21+.
