Calgary Flames Storyline<\/h2>\n

The Flames (1-1-0) welcome the Blues (0-1-0) for their home opener as they look to bounce back from a 5-1 loss against the Vancouver Canucks<\/a> on Thursday night. Their 4-3 shootout win over Connor McDavid<\/a> and the Edmonton Oilers<\/a> was a great way to kick off their 2025-26 campaign as they managed to come back from a 0-3 deficit to steal the win over the Stanley Cup runner-ups.<\/p>\n

While the Flames’ roster is set, it’s not in stone as there are still decisions to be made by head coach Ryan Huska<\/a>. One notable name missing from the lineup during their brief two-game road trip was Zayne Parekh<\/a>, who watched both games from the press box. Huska addressed this in a press conference before opening night<\/a> on Oct. 8, emphasizing this choice is for Parekh to start acclimating:<\/p>\n

“We want to make sure that whether it\u2019s tomorrow night or the next night, he\u2019s ready for his opening night game. So, this allows him to see an environment in a building that\u2019s going to be quite a bit different from what he saw last year with us and what he\u2019s seen in exhibition so far.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Questions still float around the backup position behind Dustin Wolf<\/a>. While Devin Cooley<\/a> seems to have earned the role following training camp and exhibition, his outings during preseason weren’t huge signals of confidence.<\/p>\n

St. Louis Blues Storyline<\/h2>\n

The Blues have only played one game so far, a 0-5 shutout loss to the Minnesota Wild<\/a>. They are also already dealing with their first major lineup change of the season, as forward Alexey Toropchenko<\/a> missed Friday’s practice<\/a> with lower and upper body soreness.<\/p>\n

Historically, the Blues have fared well against the Flames. Over their 190-game history, they’ve outscored the Flames 599-579 and outscoring Calgary in the 2024-25 season 9-7, winning all three games.<\/p>\n

Prediction<\/h2>\n

The Blues struggled to get their offense going against the Wild, and Jordan Binnington<\/a> allowed five goals on 21 attempts to put up an abysmal .762 SV%. However, that’s not to say they are struggling to get goals past their opponents, as shown in their exhibition games.<\/p>\n

On the flip side, the Flames have been fairly hit-and-miss and are still finding their scoring touch this season. Despite having a strong and steady figure like Dustin Wolf in net, he can only do so much for the Flames without their offense producing to keep them competitive.<\/p>\n

Prediction: Blues win 3-2.<\/em><\/p>\n
