The Russian defenceman has never played in the NHL before as he has spent four seasons in the KHL. Rykov is a part of a run of young defensive signings with the New York Rangers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">OFFICIAL: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NYR?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#NYR<\/a> have agreed to terms with defenseman Yegor Rykov on an entry-level contract.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 New York Rangers (@NYRangers) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYRangers\/status\/1130473748539367424?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">20. m\u00e1ja 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h1>New York Rangers Sign Yegor Rykov<\/h1>\n<p>Rykov has been selected as the 132nd overall player by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/devils\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> in the fifth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. In Feb. 2018, the Rangers acquired his rights from the Devils alongside a second-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft from New Jersey in exchange for forward\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/grabnmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Grabner<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Rykov has skated in the KHL for the past four campaigns. In 157 games played, Rykov combined for five goals and 28 assists for 33 points. He played another 36 games in the KHL playoffs. The young Russian defenceman also won the Gagarin Cup in 2017 with the SKA St. Petersburg. Before the past season, SKA traded him to SK Sochi, where he finished the campaign with 12 points in 53 total games.<\/p>\n<h2>What Does This Mean For The Future<\/h2>\n<p>Rykov has certainly shown his qualities over the past few seasons spent in the KHL. He also helped the Russians to claim the silver medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. He was teammates with current Rangers goaltender\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/georgal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexandar Georgiev<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in that tournament. Next year, Rykov helped Russia earn a bronze medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship<\/p>\n<p>In the past few weeks, the Rangers have already <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2019\/04\/30\/new-york-rangers-acquire-rights-to-adam-fox-from-carolina-hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">acquired<\/a> and then <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2019\/05\/02\/new-york-rangers-sign-adam-fox-from-harvard\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">signed<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/05\/02\/new-york-rangers-sign-adam-fox-from-harvard\/\" target=\"_self\">young defenceman Adam Fox<\/a>. They have still three pending restricted free agents on their blueline with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pionkne01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Neal Pionk<\/a><\/strong><strong>,<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/claesfr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fredrik Claesson<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/deangan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony DeAngelo<\/a><\/strong>. The number of young and talented skaters on the Rangers roster grows, especially on their blue line.
